Psychedelic
Preparation & Integration
The Process of Psychedelic Preparation
Preparing for a psychedelic experience is crucial to ensuring a safe and meaningful journey. Our collaborative process involves several important elements that can enhance the experience and minimize potential risks.
It starts with thorough education on the specific psychedelic substance you plan to use (psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, DMT, ketamine and ayahuasca are all commonly used). Understanding its effects, duration, and possible risks are essential for making informed decisions.
Next, creating the right set and setting are paramount. Set refers to your mindset, emotions and expectations, while setting refers to the physical environment. For set, we will work together to create clear intentions and a sense of purpose for your journey. We will reflect on your personal goals and what you hope to gain from the psychedelic experience. I will support you in taking care of your mental and emotional well-being as we begin to address any issues or trauma that begin to unfold. We will also look at ways of optimizing physical relaxation and well-being leading up to the journey. A healthy diet and lifestyle in the weeks leading up can have an enormously positive impact. It is during this time we may also integrate meditation, breathwork, mindfulness, Qui-gong or somatic work if appropriate.
For a safe setting it is important to remove any potentially dangerous objects from your environment and have a trusted, sober sitter present. This sitter should understand your intentions, any relevant medical history and be able to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible. There are many other environmental factors that can impact your journey such as lighting, music and comfortable surroundings. Please enquire directly for more information on trip-sitting and journey guidance.
The Process of Integration
Integration is key to making the most of your psychedelic experience. Psychedelic integration is a form of therapy that aims to integrate insights and experiences gained from expanded states of consciousness into daily life. After the journey we allocate ongoing time for reflection, engaging in practices like talk therapy, movement, bodywork, breathwork and other modalities. I will encourage you to adopt other integrative practices such as journaling, meditation and creative projects to process and make sense of your insights and emotions. This allows for lasting, positive change to take hold.
Integration therapy can be especially helpful for those who have had challenging or difficult psychedelic experiences, even if they were long ago. It is important to note that psychedelic integration therapy is not a substitute for medical or psychiatric care, and should be used in conjunction with appropriate medical and mental health treatment.
Microdose Coaching
For those looking for guidance outside of having big “trips” or journeys, microdosing can have incredible impact. Microdosing refers to the practice of taking very small amounts of psychedelic substances (such as LSD or psilocybin mushrooms) to produce subtle effects without inducing a full-blown psychedelic experience. It can enhance creativity and focus, support building new patterns and habits and enhance overall well-being. It is can also help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Note on Psychedelic Substances
It is essential to approach psychedelics with respect, caution, and a commitment to personal safety. Always ensure you are using these substances responsibly, seeking guidance from medical professionals or experienced facilitators when necessary.
The use of psychedelics should comply with the law, and individuals should always prioritize their safety and well-being. This information is provided for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional advice.
